CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – The Ohio Senate plans to borrow $600 million of unclaimed funds that are sitting in banks owed to people who have lapsed bank accounts, unclaimed insurance claims, and loan it to the Browns to help pay for their new stadium.

The state is currently holding a whopping $3.7 billion in unclaimed funds.
This new plan is part of the Ohio Senate Finance Committee’s substitute bill for the 2026-27 biennial budget.
That money would be repaid with taxes generated from the new multi-billion-dollar project in Brook Park over the next 25 years.
The money being used has been sitting in the unclaimed fund for 10 or more years, according to Senate representatives.
