A Camden woman faces a felony charge for allegedly using state computers to steal thousands of dollars while working for the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles.
SLED agents arrested Julia Haley Baker, 22. She was charged with computer crime in the first degree and booked at the Kershaw County Detention Center and will be prosecuted by the Fifth Circuit Solicitor’s Office. If convicted, she could be fined up to $50,000 and/or sentenced to up to five years in prison.
According to arrest warrants, Baker used the state computer system to manipulate DMV transactions, defrauding customers and/or the DMV of more than $10,000. The alleged crime happened between May 1 and May 16 of this year, while Baker was working at the DMV’s Camden office.
