Fargo Theatre could receive state funds for restoration project

BISMARCK, N.D. — Fargo Theatre may see money coming its way, if a bill recently submitted into the legislature comes to pass.

It would give the North Dakota Historical Society $1,100,000 to fund a restoration project of the historic theatre.

The bill says that for every two dollars raised by the theatre, the state will donate one dollar.

A committee gave it a “do pass” recommendation.

The theatre has started a capital campaign for improvements to the building and new equipment.

Fargo Representative Karla Hanson sponsored the bill and hopes people join the theatre community and donate.

“It does need some updates and so this capital campaign will help do that. And the state’s investment in these improvements will really be a catalyst for all the private donations that will be required by the match. So we’re really excited to move this project forward,” Hanson said.

The Fargo Theatre will be celebrating it’s 100th anniversary in March 2026.
