We planned our summer Feed-A-Family events one after another and the forecast played out so that it actually was feeling like summer at both drives. Last week, we were in southern Vermont. We were collecting food and funds at the Rutland Hannaford. All of those donations went directly to BROC Community Action, serving Rutland and Bennington Counties. This week, we made our final stop of this Feed-A-Family Food Drive at the south end City Market in Burlington.
We will be setup inside and outside of City Market at 207 Flynn Avenue in Burlington today, June 20th. Donations of non-perishable food, sanitary products (paper towels, toilet paper, dish soap, toothpaste, etc.) and cash are all being accepted. Vermont Foodbank is the beneficiary for this event and after talking to Jason, the Chief Operating Officer for Vermont Foodbank, he tells us this is a much needed event. Jason mentioned that the need for donations to fight food insecurity in the Green Mountain State only continues to grow. After all the donations are in, the proceeds will go immediately to the Vermont Foodbank and they will start distributing to communities in need, right away.
The sponsor of our Burlington leg of this Feed-A-Family Food Drive is the Vermont Federal Credit Union. We had the opportunity to discuss what this event means for Vermont Federal Credit Union with Peter Winch earlier in the week. We also met up with Peter today to talk about how they’re doubling down on helping out with donations for a third straight year. There are drop-off bins at all Vermont Federal Credit Union locations so you have the opportunity to donate even if you don’t live in the Queen City.
We also talked to Maggie from the Vermont Federal Credit Union. She is a big part of the outreach and community engagement for Vermont Federal. Maggie knows that the mission and overall goals of Vermont Federal translate right along the lines of serving Vermont communities in need. Maggie and so many others from Vermont Federal Credit Union were giddy and ready to help at the event.
Lastly, a huge thank you to City Market in the south end of Burlington. They played great hosts to us and our Feed-A-Family Food Drive for yet another year. We got to talk to Cheray of City Market who mentioned that this food drive has only grown over the years, especially as City Market has explored different avenues in the realm of collecting donations. For example, Cheray says that they brought back those pre-packaged ten dollar bags. They are grab and go kind of bags that you can put right in the cart and donate on your way out. It’s mindless, easy, and gets the job done in a big way for our communities that need us the most.
What are you waiting for? We’ll be down at the south end City Market in Burlington all day. We’ll be collecting those non-perishables, sanitary products, baby food/formula, diapers, etc. and cash donations for the Vermont Foodbank until 7PM this evening. See you there!
