Former East Texas treasurer arrested for misusing youth foundation Funds

Authorities arrest former Grand Saline Youth Foundation treasurer Sheri Ralynn Roach for alleged fund misappropriation.

GRAND SALINE, Texas — The former treasurer of the Grand Saline Youth Foundation is accused of withdrawing money from the organization for personal use.

Sheri Ralynn Roach, 47, of Grand Saline, was arrested on Friday on a $25,000 bond. She is charged with misapplication of fiduciary property, a State Jail Felony. She has since been released on bond from Van Zandt County Detention Center.

Roach’s indictment alleges she withdrew between $2,500 and $30,000 without accounting to the Foundation for the Funds, according to the Van Zandt Criminal District Attorney’s Office.

District Attorney Tonda Curry noted that while the range of funds misappropriated is wide, the evidence suggests “a loss much closer to the low end than the high.”

“…our evidence indicates Ms. Roach was the Treasurer of the Foundation from 2013 to 2020 but that during the last two years of that time she withdrew funds from the account for personal use,” Curry said. “With this type of case one of the primary goals of prosecution is always to restore funds to the charity. U am hopeful that can be accomplished here to support the youth foundation.”

A State Jail Felony is punishable between six months and two years in jail and a fine up to $10,000.
