JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – The City of Jonesboro is looking at additional funding to bring more paratransit fleet vehicles to the area.
On Tuesday, Aug. 20, the Jonesboro City Council approved a resolution to authorize the Grants and Community Development Department to accept a sub-allocation from the Federal Transit Administration Fiscal Year 2019 49 U.S.C. Section 5307 Formula grant for the Jonesboro Economical Transportation system.
The resolution states the City of Conway has lapsing funds totaling $957,607 in Section 5307 formula funding in the Fiscal Year 2019, saying these funds “are available during its allocated fiscal year plus five additional years and must be applied for and obligated or the funds will be returned.
The Arkansas Department of Transportation has reallocated funds from the City of Conway to the City of Jonesboro for use in JET.
The resolution states JET requests $161,318 in Section 5307 formula funding with a 20% local match to buy two paratransit fleet vehicles. The city would provide a local match of $40,330.
The city council’s decision comes as JET has been working to add more bus routes, shelter stops, and a new way to help residents get across the area.
