WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – Habitat for Humanity held its very own golf tournament with the goal of raising funds for several local housing projects, all to continue the nonprofit’s mission of ensuring everyone has a decent, safe, affordable place to call home.
More than 80 participants came together at the Wichita Falls Country Club to play golf in support of Habitat for Humanity’s goal of creating more affordable housing for struggling families in the community.
Executive director of Habitat for Humanity Will Goodner said the event raised around $15,000 that will be put toward building homes locally in Wichita Falls.
“It’s not always about the money, though. Again, it’s good to try to reward your donors and your sponsors with a fun day of golf. And you know, we have a lot of returning golfers each year that really seem to not only support our mission, but embrace the fundraising that we do have,” Goodner said.
Goodner said it meant a lot to see donors show up in droves.
“They could be at work, they could be at home with their families, you know, they could be mowing their lawn, but they’ve taken the time and the money and the energy to come out here to support our mission, be with us,” Goodner said.
Goodner added that funds raised at the tournament will help support future Habitat projects.
“These proceeds will help immensely on our next builds, whether it’s the construction cost itself or just the operational cost that goes into making sure that we keep our mission moving forward,” Goodner said.
Additional funds raised from raffles and other contests held during the tournament will also go directly toward Habitat’s goals.
If you’re not much of a golfer, nonprofit leaders say you can still help out by volunteering your time or donating to the cause here.
