FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – The 33rd Annual AIDS Benefit in Fort Wayne is set for this Saturday, aiming to raise money to support the Positive Resource Connection’s (PRC) fight against HIV.
The nonprofit center offers HIV and STI testing and prevention resources, helps clients with housing, and offers food pantry services.
PRC Executive Director Jeff Markley describes the organization as a lifeline for those with HIV, helping them navigate their medical journey. He says that includes “wrap-around services”, like help with housing, transportation, and food, that are often needed because of the financial challenges those undergoing treatment often face.
To help the nonprofit raise money to continue to provide such crucial services, After Dark is hosting its annual AIDS Benefit this Saturday, March 23.
Guests are asked to give a $10 donation at the door, which doubles as a ticket to the night’s festivities starting at 8 p.m. A Cabaret Show will then kick off at 8:30 p.m., followed by a Drag Show featuring 30 entertainers and a silent auction. All proceeds raised that night are then donated to the PRC, including tips from performers, Markley says.
Markley calls these donations “incredibly critical” as they allow the non-profit to fund programs like their food pantry that are not supported by grants.
“This event has no theme, no gimmicks,” AIDS Benefit Chair Branden Blaettner said. “We simply aim to raise awareness and funds to aid the Positive Resource Connection in their mission to stop the spread of HIV in Northeast Indiana.”
