Local riders in South Deerfield to raise funds for those impacted by cancer

SOUTH DEERFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Bikes Fight Cancer charity ride will be held Saturday morning at Tree House Brewing in South Deerfield.

According to Bikes Fight Cancer, this event, powered by Valley Solar, will include a 50-mile route that starts at 8 AM, and a 25-mile route that starts at 9 AM. There is also a 25-mile route, and both will take riders of all abilities along the Connecticut River Valley. The goal of the event is to raise awareness and to help join the fight against cancer.

Following the ride, bikers will enjoy activities including a raffle, food from Local Burger and Bueno Y Sano, and Tree House beverages. Kids can bring their bikes to join in the organization’s ride around the brewery’s property. Face painting and ice cream will also be made available to kids at the event.

“I am excited to be joining Bike Fights Cancer for their charity ride again this year. No matter what level of cyclist you are, this event is for you. No matter what route you choose to ride, you will not be disappointed,” says participant Karen Minott.

Bikes Fight Cancer began in 2006 with a group of friends from Palmer who began riding their bikes to raise money for the Pan-Mass Challenge. Their team had gotten so big they decided to start their charity bike ride, where dollars stay local. In 2023, they became a 501(c)(3) volunteer-run charity to use cycling to lessen the burden of a cancer diagnosis.
