Oyens Community Development Committee raises 80% of funds for a playground, planning next fundraiser


OYENS, Iowa (KTIV) – A group in Plymouth County is making great strides in raising money to build a playground.

The Oyens Community Development Committee is a group of parents in Oyens, Iowa, raising money for new park equipment, and so far, they are 80% of the way there.

Residents of the town with a population of around 100 say the goal is to create a safer space for the local kids to grow up in.

Over the weekend, the group hosted a fundraising event and raised another $10,000 for the cause.

The goal is to raise a total of $28,500, and right now they are just under the $20,000 mark.

The next community fundraiser for Oyens is coming up on Friday, July 4.

If you’re looking for family-friendly events on Independence Day, the Oyens Tractor Parade and Block Party.

The parade kicks off at Noon from the old Oyens Elementary School.

There will be tractors, pulled pork, bounce houses, raffles, and one big reason to celebrate.

100% of proceeds go to building the new Oyens Park.
