POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (KFVS) – The Pinktober Breast Cancer Awareness Walk is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, October 19 at McLane Park in Poplar Bluff.
Organizers say the event is free to attend, and proceeds from the sale of t-shirts, cups and coasters will raise funds for St. Francis Healthcare’s Pink Up.
Local vendor Tasha’s Sweet Treats will have food available for purchase, with a portion of profits being donated to the cause.
Organizers are looking for more vendors.
There will also be an education booth with handouts detailing how to perform self-breast exams and the recommended ages for screening.
Organizer Crystal Davis said anyone is welcome at the event, whether they participate in the walk or just come to hang out.
As many as 100 people are expected to come out in support of breast cancer patients and survivors.
“It feels really good to feel like we’re helping something that’s near and dear to our hearts like the Pink Up Foundation, something that really helps people in our community,” Davis said.
Volunteers with Alpha Delta Nu, the Nursing Honor Society at Three Rivers College, are putting on the event.
