Principal of St. Albans High anticipates track repairs with upcoming levy funds

Parents have been sharing their concerns over the state of Saint Albans High School’s track. They said it needs major repairs that they aren’t certain it will get.

The principal of St. Albans High School shared a statement to us Wednesday, saying in part, they are looking forward to those upgrades on the track with the levy fund allocations along with their other athletic facility upgrades.

They said their track is one of the best in the area. They said West Virginia State University uses it, along with middle schools and neighboring high schools.

The statement reads:“We are aware of the condition of our track and field area for our Red Dragon Scholar athletes, and certainly wish we could expedite repairs. Given that, it is one of the best in the area, to the extent WVSU uses it for their program, our middle schools, and often neighboring high schools ask to use it rather than their concrete alternatives at their respective schools. WVSU does have a plan in place to build its own facility in the near future. Our track is also open to the community when not in school use. We look forward to the upgrade of our track in the future given levy fund allocations, as well as other athleticfacilityupgrades…”

“We always want to provide the best facilities to all Red Dragon Scholar athletes, unfortunately, we are on the timeline of a different funding source. All school-based sports, extra-curricular/co-curricular activities, clubs, and/or organizations are not given yearly funds. They have to raise monies independently, through approved fundraisers, grants, donations, or levies in this case, for any type of need, facilities or otherwise. We are fortunate voters elected to support a levy that can help fulfill some of those needs. The timeline for fulfilling those needs has not been given to us in detail; however, we look forward to being able to share something more definitive as soon as we are made aware. “

They are working on the timeline of a different funding source since sports and extra curriculars are not given yearly funds. The timeframe for those updates has not been given to them in detail, but they will be sharing more information as soon as they are made aware.
