TAMIU receives large sums in research funds

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – Over $260 thousand in federal funds will help pave the way for smarter cities and transportation.

Texas A&M International University was the proud recipient of a grant for their engineering school.

The money will help students and professors continue their research on self-driving cars.

Congressman Henry Cuellar commented that these funds are important, especially for Latino communities that remain underrepresented in certain STEM fields.

Associate Professor at the School of Engineering, Dr. Tariq Tashtoush, stated that the research will contribute to future technology.

“We will have a lot of students dealing with and having hands-on experience with state-of-the-art equipment. They will be a big contributor to the research and the future,” Tashtoush mentioned.

The award was granted through Department of Education funds.
