Wayne County will receive an additional $39,925 in tobacco settlement funds through the Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund, according to a report provided to the Representative Ken Upchurch and other lawmakers. The information was provided at the June meeting of the legislature’s Tobacco Settlement Oversight Committee.
The funding is specifically approved by the Kentucky Agriculture Development Board (KADB) for the County Agricultural Investment Program.
“I applaud the Agricultural Development Board and the Department of Agricultural for their efforts to foster economic development through agricultural and I am happy to announce that Wayne County will receive an additional $39,925 in agriculture development funds. I believe that this money will benefit our community and lead to positive economic development,” Upchurch said.
This funding stems from the Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement fund that was established as a result of an accord that was reached in 1998 between four major tobacco product manufacturers and 46 states. The legislature created the Kentucky Agricultural Development Board. Legislators moved the KADB to the Department of Agriculture during the 2021 Regular Session to better serve the mission of the fund.
