Wayne’s Wiffle for a Wish raises funds for Make-A-Wish

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – Families wanting to make a difference stepped up to bat Saturday for Wayne’s Wiffle for a Wish.

The annual fundraiser aims to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine by hosting the largest wiffle ball tournament in the state.

In addition to the game itself, guests could support the cause by purchasing raffle tickets, t-shirts, and other such items, the proceeds of which go directly to Make-A-Wish Maine.

Wayne’s Wiffle for a Wish founder Wayne Harvey says he was inspired to start the tournament following the birth of his daughter.

“We saw so many different things and so many families that weren’t going to come with their kids that night. And we did, and how can we help? So I asked some people that knew who I was ‘how can I get involved’ and it grew from an idea into now the largest wiffle ball tournament in the state of Maine that’s been going for 17 years,” said Harvey.

The fundraising goal for this year was $17 thousand by the end of the day.

Since the tournament began in 2009, over $200 thousand have been raised.

Plans are already being made for next year’s event.
