West Milford receives grant funds to build town park

WEST MILFORD, W.Va. (WBOY) — Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) recently announced $470,254 in funding for projects to improve public outdoor recreation, which will assist one local town in building its first community park.

According to a press release from the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, the town of West Milford will receive $124,850 to create its first town park, which will provide “both recreational opportunities as well as outdoor community events.” The park will contain a basketball court, pavilions and exercise equipment.

Town Recorder Jeff Barnhart hopes that the addition will help bring locals together, as well as new people in.

“It means a lot,” Barnhart said when asked what it meant to receive the grant. “Families always look at the infrastructure and that is something we have been missing.”

Several other locations also received grant funds for local projects, including Hurricane, Moundsville, Belington and Burlington.

While there is currently no timeline for completion, Barnhart said that plans have already been drawn by Thrasher Engineering after receiving input from council members and the community.
