Mifflin County, PA (WJAC) — Downtown Lewistown, in Mifflin County, may soon be seeing more investments.
On Wednesday, Governor Josh Shapiro visited the community to designate it as part of his administration’s “Main Street Matters” program, which provides downtown business districts with tools and resources to create healthy, vibrant communities.
The borough’s revitalization group plans to leverage the new designation to attract more businesses and people, especially for the new Geisinger School of Nursing.
“This isn’t some act of charity, Main Streets are big business for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; think about this, for every one dollar we invest in a Main Street, we get eight dollars returned to the Commonwealth. That’s a heck of a return on investment. Main Streets matter and they’re a smart investment,” Gov. Shapiro said.
During the visit, Gov. Shapiro also announced a second round of competitive project funding through the ‘Main Street Matters’ program.
Eligible communities and organizations can apply for funding through August 21st.
