Local student wins Investment Challenge | News, Sports, Jobs




A Loyalsock Township School District student recently won the Woodlands Bank Semester Investment Challenge for the fall. Julia Breon, the student, worked under the leadership of her teacher, Michelle Carpenter, according to the press release.

The competitions are held in the classroom across the county and state. Breon placed first for Lycoming County and eighth in the state.

“I love competing in The Investment Challenge with my students,” Carpenter said in the press release. “It is a great experience for our students to become familiar with how trading stocks work.”

The challenge is sponsored by Woodlands Bank, which is a local community bank with headquarters in Williamsport.

The Pennsylvania Council on Financial Literacy, PennCFL, who is also involved in the challenge, “exists to prepare the next generation to rise up,” according to the press release.

“We strive to change the future by offering all Pennsylvania students in grades K through 12 with personal finance education, investment and personal budgeting simulations, along with entrepreneurship skills that will help them thrive in the workforce and life,” the press release noted.
