Sweets producer HARIBO UK unveils £35m investments

Confectionary company HARIBO UK says its new purpose-built warehouse in Castleford will open early next year.

Outlining recent investments totalling more than £35m, the business says this spending will ensure its facilities are best-in-class and help safeguard jobs in Yorkshire for the long-term.

It says an additional production and packaging line will also help meet growing demand for its treats.

Yorkshire-based Caddick Construction was appointed to build the warehouse in early 2024.

HARIBO UK has reported a strong financial year, achieving a record market share of 22.6 per cent and a 7.7 per cent rise in turnover.

It is expanding its retail presence. After opening a store in Kent’s Bluewater Shopping Centre, the business confirmed it would be arriving in Scotland with a location at Glasgow’s Silverburn Shopping Centre due to launch later this year.

It is again the headline sponsor at the upcoming Pontefract Liquorice Festival. The event, taking place this year on 13 July, will see thousands of residents and tourists fill the streets to celebrate the town’s sweet-making tradition.

Jon Hughes, managing director, said: “We’re proud of HARIBO UK’s performance in 2024, and to once again be the most popular choice for consumers within our category.

“Through ongoing investment in our production sites and continued innovation across our treats, stores, people, and community initiatives, we continue to bring more moments of childlike happiness and to be part of Yorkshire’s proud next chapter of food manufacturing excellence.”
