RWE, a prominent player in the renewable energy sector, will procure approximately 120 wind turbines from Nordex over the course of the next 2.5 years. This procurement is set to amplify RWE’s presence in European markets, reinforcing its commitment to expand its onshore wind capacity.
Katja Wünschel, CEO of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership, stating, “We have announced that we will accelerate our expansion even further… This supply agreement with Nordex optimally complements existing contracts and secures additional capacity for us to achieve our ambitious growth targets.”
The collaboration between RWE and Nordex is rooted in a history of successful ventures, with RWE already operating 53 wind farms equipped with Nordex turbines across seven countries.
Jose Luis Blanco, CEO of the Nordex Group, expressed eagerness to deepen the partnership, stating, “We look forward to further expanding our cooperation with RWE… making a joint contribution to Europe’s energy security.”
As part of the agreement, RWE will primarily utilize Nordex’s N163 turbine model, known for its flexible rated output of up to 6.8 MW. Additionally, the deal encompasses the N175 and N149 models, which offer capacities of up to 6.8 MW and 5.9 MW respectively, catering to RWE’s diverse operational requirements across European markets.
In a move aimed at ensuring the longevity and efficiency of the wind farms, both parties have also entered into a multi-year service agreement covering the maintenance and servicing of the installed turbines. However, specific financial details of the agreement remain undisclosed as per mutual agreement between RWE and Nordex.
