Earlier today, taking cues from global stock markets, Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty opened in red territory. Sensex opened 77.50 points, or 0.11 per cent lower at 72,565.90 while Nifty inched 45.00 points, or 0.20 per cent lower at 21,978.30.
GIFT Nifty is trading 9.50 points, or 0.04 per cent lower at 22,087.00 at 9 am.
Indian Rupee opened 4 paisa stronger at 82.84 against US dollar. The dollar index, which measures the American currency against six currencies, is marginally up at 103.09.
International crude oil prices ticked up early morning today, firming up 4 per cent gains from last week. The reason, analysts cite the elevation of geopolitical risks. Brent oil price is trading 0.35 per cent at 85.54 while WTI price is 0.43 per cent up at 81.39.
Asian markets nudged higher on the first trading session of the week. Nikkei advanced 2.17 per cent at 39,538.06 while Kospi inched 0.64 per cent higher at 2,683.72.
