OSHKOSH ― City of Oshkosh has named Russ Van Gompel’s replacement after hiring Julie Calmes as the new finance director.
Calmes’ promotion was announced via news release one week after the city revealed Van Gompel is retiring following a five-year stint as finance director.
“We are pleased Julie Calmes will be growing within our team to lead Oshkosh’s Finance Department,” wrote City Manager Mark Rohloff in the release.
“Julie has been a valuable member of the city’s finance team over the last year and I am confident that she will continue to excel in her new role with the city.”

Calmes served as the assistant finance director for the past year and will now oversee the department, which includes collections, utility accounting, parking administration, general accounting, payroll and finance.
She was also the finance director for the town of Grand Chute and has 17 years of finance experience.
“I am excited and grateful to be the City of Oshkosh’s next finance director,” Calmes said.
“I am looking forward to the challenge of this new role and continuing to work with the great team here at Oshkosh.”
Van Gompel retires March 22 after before Calmes takes up the position March 25.
