Shinhan Financial Group Chairman Jin Ok-dong highlighted the importance of women in the finance sector, commemorating International Women’s Day, which fell on Friday.
During the 2024 Shinhan SHeroes Conference held at the financial group’s headquarters on Friday, Jin vowed to continue enhancing the group’s competitiveness by fostering leadership skills among women employees and attempting to change their social roles.
The event is the financial giant’s initiative launched in 2018, aiming to nurture women leaders within the financial industry. It was the first of such events created by major domestic financial groups, solely targeting to foster women leaders through various programs, including group mentoring, networking with senior leaders and lectures on humanities, the latest market trends and leadership skills.
“Leaders of Shinhan SHeroes are not just representatives of women employees within the group but also responsible workers who are called to respect and expand the diversity of the group,” Jin said in his congratulatory message.
At the event, Jin and women executives of the group encouraged over 60 individuals selected as the 7th cohort of SHeroes program.
Since its inception, the initiative has so far trained a total of 280 women as leaders. The members of the 6th cohort had a presentation session at the ceremony, sharing their opinions on the results of training and education over the past year. They also discussed their vision for women’s leadership.
This year, the program invites women leaders from other companies to give lectures to allow participants to learn recent industry trends regarding women’s leadership more effectively and seek ways to develop it.
