New Stand-Alone Dollar General Building Could Be Coming To Morris

A stand-alone Dollar General building could be constructed in Morris. The Morris Development Review Committee last week heard from representatives with Spaceco about the location.

“Jason Weestbrook and Harold Bay with Spaceco. We’re looking at lot five in White Oak Common subdivision, so just on the west side of Washburn, south side of six. The access is off the commons, if that’s what you’re asking. Only if there’s only one access, and it’s off the commons.”

After the meeting, Morris City Planner Mike Hoffman spoke with WCSJ about the proposed project.

“This would be located essentially immediately west of the Arby’s on Route six along Commons Drive and Washburn. It’s about nine thousand square feet, I think, and it’s just a typical Dollar General cell. Right? It just provides immediate access to anybody that’s living out that way. Right? So if you need to pick up something quick and convenient, it’s handy for you.”

During the meeting, the project was tabled until a future meeting as the company has to meet other requirements for the building. The company would also have to get a variance for the project, and the Morris City Council would have to approve that at a future meeting.

The company did not say if they would be moving out of their current space along Gore Road in Morris. They are also hoping to start construction on this building later this year or early 2027.
