Earlier this week, reports emerged that MV Agusta had halted motorcycle production due to a lack of funding and disappointing sales.

According to various reports, MV Agusta held discussions with CFMOTO that would see the Chinese brand acquiring a 49% stake in the Italian company. Those negotiations went nowhere, putting further financial pressure on MV Agusta, as it worked to re-establish itself following its separation from KTM.

To address these reports, MV Agusta released a statement clarifying its financial position. While not naming CFMOTO, MV Agusta confirmed its owner, Art of Mobility, “has initiated and assessed a number of discussions” about the company’s shareholder structure with other parties. “Some opportunities were explored in depth and subsequently considered not viable; others did not meet the necessary requirements in terms of substance and reliability,” the statement reads. “Other parties and scenarios remain under evaluation.”

MV Agusta also confirms it had entered a Composizione Negoziata della Crisi (CNC), a framework under Italian law for companies to rebalance its finances. A CNC allows a company to engage with various stakeholders with help from an independent third party, while also providing some potential tax relief as it resolves its financial issues.

Addressing reports of weak sales, MV Agusta claims it saw a 3.4% uptick in retail registrations through the first half of 2026, with increased demand in Italy, France, and the United States. While the sales increase wasn’t enough to fully right the ship, MV Agusta says it is a sign of strong demand for the brand. Of course, that is something a company would say if it hopes to entertain significant investors.

MV Agusta’s statement does not, however, confirm whether production has halted. The statement also makes clear MV Agusta will only provide further updates after any developments are fully secured.

In relation to the numerous reports and interpretations that have recently appeared across various media outlets and online channels regarding MV Agusta’s corporate situation, the Company believes it is appropriate to provide some clarification.

Following the separation from the KTM Group and the subsequent reacquisition of 100% of MV Agusta by the shareholder Art of Mobility, controlled by the Sardarov family, the Company has been engaged for several months in a comprehensive process aimed at restoring MV Agusta’s full operational, industrial, and financial balance.
