The Zebulon town manager is left to pick up the pieces after two of the town’s top finance department employees left.
The town’s finance director, Bobby Fitts, retired last month following an audit highlighting overspending and poor financial oversight.
On Tuesday, Zebulon town manager Katy Crosby addressed the town council. She said she is dedicated to providing transparency on town spending; and the town plans to bring in an outside accounting firm to improve operations.
“They’re also supporting us on our day-to-day finance operations,” Crosby said. “They’re helping us document our processes. They’re also another eye from the outside being able to look and assess how we’re doing and then giving us feedback on how we can improve.”
