The Correctional Training Facility (CTF) recently hosted a fundraiser to support the institution’s second National Crime Victims’ Rights Week.
The fundraiser was organized by Freedom Through Liberation with proceeds designated for the Community Justice Center Victim Services nonprofit organization.
The goal was to generate financial support for survivor guest speakers participating in National Crime Victims’ Rights Week events. Funds raised will assist with travel and meal-related expenses.
Specifically, the event featured a kickball game between support teams. The game included participants from the Peer Support Specialist Program and Peer Literacy Mentor Program as well as incarcerated persons from Facility A and B yards.
The fundraiser provided an opportunity for incarcerated persons to participate in structured activities aligned with restorative practices by contributing to victim-centered services.
Sponsored by Freedom Through Liberation, the non-profit organization is based out of Salinas and CTF.
The fundraiser allowed CTF to donate $2,177 to the Community Justice Center Victim Services nonprofit organization.
Correctional Counselor III Isela Fletes said events such as these are valuable tools for rehabilitation.
“Providing structured opportunities for accountability while supporting victim services remains an important part of these efforts,” Fletes said.
