The Family Card project will be given priority in the upcoming 2026-27 fiscal year as it is a flagship project of the BNP government. Necessary funds will be allocated for the implementation of the programme, said Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.

Speaking after a meeting of the Family Card committee at the Ministry of Finance today (27 April), the minister said budget constraints would not be an obstacle to the initiative.

“Whatever budget is required will be allocated. This is an important government decision,” he said.

He also said efforts are underway to address existing shortcomings in the project to ensure smoother implementation.

According to him, more than 37,000 cards have already been distributed under the pilot phase. The authorities are now reviewing the process to identify whether any eligible beneficiaries were left out or wrongly included.

The minister added that identified issues are being corrected and coordination measures are being strengthened to improve accuracy in future implementation.

He further said the Family Card programme is not only a social protection initiative but also a humanitarian effort aimed at empowering women and ensuring services reach rural and underprivileged communities, with expected positive contributions to the economy.
